VOLLEYBALL WRAPS UP OPENING TOURNAMENT WITH THREE SET GAMES

        Fresno State volleyball wrapped up their opening weekend by starting the year 1-2, after picking up their first victory over Long Island, then falling to San Diego in the nightcap. Both games were actually played in three sets, with libero Korrin Wild earning All-Tournament honors for her play. In the afternoon contest versus Long Island, the Bulldogs were once again lead by newcomer Barbara Alcantara with 21 assists and 11 digs. MUSTANGS HOLD OFF BULLDOG VOLLEYBALL

    Fresno State volleyball kicked off their season with a closely-knitted contest versus Cal Poly, but fell to the Mustangs in five sets. The Bulldogs, who were 13-15 in 2010, took set one from the Mustangs and were mostly led by a few newcomers to the program inside the Save Mart Center. Setter Barbara Alcantara, a junior college transfer from College of Southern Idaho, finished with 21 assists and 12 digs. FORMER SUNY LACROSSE COACH LOOKING TO TURN AROUND FRESNO STATE

Jessica Pausewang will now try her hand at building Fresno State women’s lacrosse. The Bulldogs named Pausewang the program’s second head coach on Friday. She comes to Fresno State after a four-year stint at Oneonta State, a State University of New York (SUNY) school. Pausewang’s resume includes coaching two members of the SUNY women’s lacrosse conference qualifiers for NCAA postseason play and also having a coaching stint in England, as she coached Rendcomb Junior College to a United Kingdom National Championship final. RED & WHITE HOOPS NIGHT SET

            The first chance for Fresno State fans to get a glimpse at new head coach Rodney Terry has now been set for Oct. 25, with the annual Red & White Hoops night at the Save Mart Center.  The event is scheduled for 7 p.m and will also feature the four-time defending Western Athletic Conference champion women’s basketball team, who will once again be under the direction of Adrian Wiggins.  Part of the festivities include a three-point shootout contest, scrimmages by both teams, and the slam dunk competition. VOLLEYBALL PLACED IN THE MIDDLE

                                                              The Western Athletic Conference unveiled their preseason conference rankings for the upcoming women’s volleyball season on Friday, and the early prediction has Fresno State finishing in the middle of the pack.  The Bulldogs, who went 13-15 and 7-9 in the WAC last season, was picked to finish fifth overall in the WAC coaches’ preseason polls.
