FORMER BULLDOG NAMED FRESNO HIGH FOOTBALL COACH

Fresno High School will now be turning to a former Fresno State offensive linemen to help block out any chance of another losing season.

Former Bulldog offensive tackle Joe Schey was named the newest head coach for the Warriors according to the Fresno Bee on Sunday. The 6-foot-6, 310 pound Schey was previously an assistant at Fresno City College.

Schey played at Fresno State from 1998-2002. He was largely responsible for using his strength and tall frame to help protect quarterback David Carr’s blind slide for the Bulldogs. Schey was an All-Western Athletic Conference performer in 2000 and 2001. He also didn’t allow one single sack during the 2001 season, when Fresno State finished 11-3.

He’ll be taking over a Fresno High football program that’s fallen on hard times in recent years. Last year’s Warrior squad finished 2-8 overall under former head coach Hector Verduzzo. The previous year saw a 1-9 mark. Fresno High School has won a combined six games since their 6-6 campaign back in 2007.

Schey now becomes the second former Bulldog to land a high school varsity football coaching job in the central valley. Former Bulldog safety Cory Hall was promoted to head varsity football coach at Clovis North back in March of this past year. Hall was previously working with the Broncos’ freshman and junior varsity teams.

This was the biggest mistake Fresno High has made by hiring this man to coach the varsity football. This man has kicked off all of his Seniors from the team for no valid excuse and the new year hasn’t even started. The senior parents will all be filing complaints with the Fresno Unified District regarding this matter. How can you kick off all of your Seniors their last year of school? Fellow coaches and team members all disagree with his decisions. He is also teaching English for summer school to give football players credits to be able to play and this man has no teaching credentials. Has Fresno High become so deperate to allow this? Well we parents will not stand for or allow this without being heard.
